Market veteran David Strachan passes away

UBS said on Wednesday that David Strachan, head of execution and clearing for Asia-Pacific, has passed away.

Strachan, a popular and well-liked figure in the market, passed away during the weekend of September 8/9.

He joined UBS in September 2013, and ran the derivatives business based in Hong Kong.

“He will be remembered for his passion and professionalism and, especially, for being a great mentor, colleague and friend,” a spokesperson for UBS in the region said.

Under his leadership, UBS’ Asia-Pacific business saw significant growth and success, for which Strachan will also be remembered.

Having started his career in institutional futures broking in Australia, Strachan went on to cover most of the Asia-Pacific region.

Working from Sydney, Hong Kong and Singapore, he built more than 20 years’ experience in the execution and clearing services on global derivative markets.

Strachan devoted twenty years to JP Morgan which he joined in 1993 and left in 2013, giving himself a year out before joining UBS later that year.

Global Investor and FOW would like to pass on our condolences to Strachan's family, friends and colleagues.
